Ever since Tesla unveiled its Solar Roof Tiles in 2017 people have been waiting to get their hands on the exciting technology. They promised it would cost as much as a normal roof and look like a normal roof all while harnessing the power of the sun and helping homeowners cut down on their utility bills.
This innovation made a lot of waves in the solar industry when it was first announced but now it’s 2020 and where are all the Solar Roofs that Tesla promised? Their goal was to cover thousands of houses across the country but they have yet to deliver on this promise.
In fact, they’ve pushed back volume production for 3 years in a row. First they said volume production would begin in 2018and then 2019 and now there are more setbacks. According to NBC, Tesla and Panasonic will reportedly stop their joint solar cell production at Gigafactory 2 in Buffalo, NY. “While Panasonic-made solar cells were going to be used primarily by Tesla to make its own solar panels, Tesla’s current Solar Roof product uses cells made in China instead. According to Nikkei, Panasonic has been selling cells it made at the Buffalo plant to other clients.” And with Coronavirus interrupting much of Chinese manufacturing you can bet that volume production of Tesla’s Solar Roof Tiles will also be delayed… again. So what’s the moral of the story?Stop waiting and start saving with solar today! The ITC tax credit got extendedfor another 2 years at 26%. So quit waiting for a technology you might never get your hands on and start taking advantages that solar has to offer.
Many people have put off installing solar because they’re still holding onto the idea of a Tesla Solar Roof and for now that reality is still far off. Traditional solar panels have so many benefits that a homeowner can reap today like adding value to their homes and helping to save on energy bills for decades to come.Instead of waiting for unproven technology to finally hit the market, who knows when, it’s time to act now!
